Initially, as seen above, I made some drawings of what I’d like to see for my first layout. The idea was to try to provide some interesting switching in a realistic situation, in this case agricultural feed mill and fertilizer plant customers. (I’d seen the remnants of this in operation years ago in Steam Mill, NS on the DAR line.)
Micromodules
  1. Micromodules, as the name suggests, are small modules that are typically of no more than 4 square feet in area.
  2. Micromodules allow me to enjoy modeling in a limited space, plus I can easily take them wherever I want to go.

  1. Micromodule Designs
The idea of creating interconnecting “micromodules” was originally presented to me by James McMillen and Lawrence VanderMeer. I was just getting back into model railroading after 8 years of absence and needed some way of getting started without committing to a large home layout.

We had a meeting with the idea of coming up with a minimal set of standards that would allow us each the most creative license yet allow the modules to be connected and operate as a larger layout at shows.
